“Providing children with access to quality literature is an ongoing goal at our school,” said Jon Romeo, principal of Macdonough School. “We recognize the difference programs like RIF make in helping all students improve their literacy skills and develop a lifelong love of reading.
This holiday book distribution represents the first 250,000 of 1 million books to be given out before major school breaks – critical times when many children in need lack access to books at home. The remaining 750,000 books will be distributed nationally before the spring and summer breaks.
“Earlier this year, RIF launched Book People Unite, a campaign to rally support for children’s literacy. This partnership is the epitome of Book People uniting,” said Carol H. Rasco, President and CEO of RIF. “At a time when many children will be saying goodbye to the books they cherish at school, many of them will be bringing home their very own books for the first time. We are very grateful to First Book, Macy’s and our publishing friends for joining with us to give books to kids most in need.”
