Third Grade Graphs Things Out.

     Today students in Mr. Ferrero's class were busy gathering, organizing, and displaying information.
       Students thought of questions that they wanted to ask their classmates.  Then they surveyed them.  After that they recorded the answers on a tally table to organize the data. Finally they took this infomation and created bar graphs so that the information was clear and easy to read.

The National Theatre for Children

Macdonough School has been selected by The National Theatre for Children for a special performance in April called “The Energized Guyz.”  NTC uses professional actors who perform an action-packed adventure combined with high energy comedy to teach students educational messages through a fun experience.

The Energized Guyz features two actors who play a variety of characters in a 25-minute program. Students learn about energy efficiency while cheering on the play’s hero, an apprentice super hero who needs to stop an evil villain who is wasting all the energy in town. Kindergarten, first, and second grades will view the show at 9:15 a.m.  Third, fourth, and fifth grades will see the show at 10:15 a.m.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rethink

On a field trip to the Trash Museum fourth graders learn what happens to recyclables after they leave their homes.

Third Grade Creates Some Fun!

This week Ms. Eckerlin’s and Mr. Ferrero’s third grade classes went to the Eli Whitney Museum on a field trip with their writing buddies. While they were there they explored the forces of motion. They set to work building their own pinball machines using wood, nails, elastics, and glue. They had to figure out how to make their game work so the ball travelled through the game and gave the player chances to win.  It was amazing to see how creative the students were when designing their games. Each student got to take home their pinball machine to show off their skills and share the fun with their family.

SURFS Up at Macdonough School

Teaching behavioral expectations and rewarding students for following them is the focus for our school-wide positive behavioral support program. Through the acronym "SURFS," students and staff have a common understanding of expectations for behavior in a variety of settings.

S=Self-Responsibility
U=Understanding
R=Respect
F=Fairness
S=Safety
We believe that introducing, modeling, and reinforcing positive social behavior is an important of a student’s educational experience.
Please join us in helping to instill these important character traits in your children - at school and at home!
